William Mackay is one of the lesser known-though not less important-Sons of Liberty. The Sons were a response to the Intolerable Acts of Great Britain during the 1750's and 1760's. They were responsible for successful opposition to The Stamp Act. Mackay (died 1800) is one of the more obscure of this august group which consisted of men like Samuel Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock, Patrick Henry, Benjamin Rush, Isaiah Thomas, and Marinus Willett.
