St. Nicholas, An Illustrated Magazine for Young Folks, Vol. XLII, Part I & II

Price: $200.00

Quantity: 1 available

Book Condition: Very Good

Two volumes, complete. 1152pp (continuous pagination). Original decorative red beveled cloth with elaborate black and gilt stamping. Pictorial endpapers. Illustrated. This set includes four stories that are illustrated by Norman Rockwell, representing some of his earliest work (only two years after his first Boys' Life cover and one year before his first Saturday Evening Post cover). He would have only been 21 years old at the time. There are also three gorgeous full color "fairy" plates by Arthur Rackham. As usual, there is much to delight the collector here: a description of an early model airplane club with photos of great models of Wright-type planes. Articles on football. Surfing in Hawaii (photographic essay). Panama Exposition. Motorcycles. Curtiss' seaplane. Of special importance is the serial, "Tommy and the Wishing-Stone" by Thornton W. Burgess, illustrated by Harrison Cady (first appearance). Corners bumped and gently rubbed (not rubbed through). A couple of minor stains to the back board on part I. A pretty set.
