99pp. This appears to be a unique local history item, with a number of short literary contributions from local women. The full subtitle of the piece is "The Squaws of the Onondagas Made This Book That the Great Chiefs Might Give Them Wampum for It, So That The Squaws, Having Wampum, Might Bribe the Medicine Man to Cure with Weird Charms Those Who Have Been Wounded in the Long Battle and Cannot Fight for Themselves. For Pity of the Wounded in the Long Battle, The Squaws of the Onondagas in their Council Halls Made This Book" (from the title page). Contributors include Mary Raymond Shipman Andrews, Irving G. Vann, Forbes Heermans, Edward S. Van Zile, Jean Marie Richards, Rose E. Thalheimer, Jessie Van Zile Belden, William Cowie, James R. Day, E. Alexander Powell, Georgia Roberts Durston, Charles Reginald Sherlock, John B. Howe, Ernst Held, Charles Cormac Mullin, and Paul M. Paine. The text block was loose in the wraps, but has been cleanly reglued. The wraps are chipped at the spine ends and are creased. The last page of the text has a hole in the center. This is quite a scarce piece of local history, sadly depicting some of the local attitude toward the Onondaga Nation in a stereotypical way since none of the contributors appear to be Onondaga. Size: 8vo - over 7 - 9" Tall
