199pp. Original brown cloth stamped in blind, spine title stamped in gilt. This copy extra-illustrated with three examples of folk art from the time: three color paintings of flowers on the end matter. They include red roses, blue bells, and another unidentified pink flower. They are very bright. This title has been identified as influential on Herman Melville in the book, "The Essex and the Whale" by R.D. Madison (2016) on pages 225-226. There is a chapter on whaling and other material on sailing. Faint ownership inscription in pencil to the front free endpaper. Corners bumped and rubbed through. Spine ends chipped. Some foxing and staining to the text block. Boards scuffed.
