According to the New Schaaf-Herzog Encyclopedia, the Cumberland Presbyterian Church began in 1797 during the Second Great Awakening in the revivals in southwestern Kentucky and Tennessee under Rev. James McGready (IX:231). This history was written during the height of the movement, which eventually fizzled out when the church was reunited with the PCUSA in 1906. This work contains an important chapter in American church and revival history. Foxed. Ownership inscription on the front free endpaper. Corners bumped and rubbed through. Very occasional marginalia.
