90pp. + 13pp. glossary. Early edition, printed only one year after the first edition. Rebound in 19th Century half cloth with marbled paper over the boards. Bookplate of the University of Texas on the verso of the front cover, indicating it was a gift from Archer M. Huntington, stepson of railroad magnate Collis P. Huntington. This is an early printing of the (then) recently discovered Codex Carolinus, a palimpsest manuscript containing fragments of Romans 11-15, dating from the 6th-7th Centuries. The manuscript contained Romans 11:33-12:5, 12:17-13:5, 14:9-20, and 15:3-13. The textual apparatus is printed in parallel columns (Gothic and Latin). The commentary is printed in Latin. Knittel's transcription would be corrected in 1855 by Tischendorf. Ownership inscription on the front pastedown. Corners bumped, edges rubbed through. Some peeling to the marbled paper on the front cover. The text is lightly browned. Small ink stamps from Univ. of TX found occasionally in the text. Ink number stamped at the bottom of the title page. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
