821pp. 1st Edition. Bound in contemporary "half cloth" (white cloth over red, lettering on the front boards stamped in gilt, red leather label also stamped in gilt. Illustrated. Presentation inscription reads, "Presented to Erwin Library by S. Albert Johnson June 8th 1904." Good genealogical material. Johnson was a Civil War veteran who was born in Boonville, NY (where this library is located). He served in the 72nd Regiment Pennsylvania (Zouave Regiment) and later attained the rank of Captain in Co. K 8th Indiana Legion (A History and Genealogical Record of the Alling-Allens of New Haven, Connecticut, page 258, footnote). The 72nd was the Regiment stationed in "the little grove of trees" during Pickett's Charge. Library bookplate to the front pastedown. Call numbers in black on the spine with label ghost to the same. Corners bumped, three corners rubbed through. Boards scuffed and somewhat soiled.
