82pp. Original buckram over burgundy cloth, spine lettering stamped in mustard yellow. Illustrated, including a lovely photo of the sole extant copy of Columbus' printed letter to Ferdinand announcing his discovery of the New World (Epistola de Insulis Nuper Inventis, 1493). Housed in the original slipcase with the original printed wraparound advertising band (creased). Printed for the benefit of the New York Public Library, who owns the original Columbus letter. "A facsimile edition of the unique copy in the New York Public Library, with a new English translation by Lucia Graves" (from the title page). A couple of small closed tears to the wraparound advertising sheet on the original slipcase. The slipcase shows some gentle fraying at two spots. The slipcase and wraparound are generally Very Good. Originally published at $100.
