8 New York State Fair at Syracuse, September 12-17 (Broadside 1911)
New York Central Lines 1911 Broadside Very Good No Jacket Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall
Officially undated but 1911 based on our research. Printed in green on white paper. Includes train schedules and detailed information on each day's events. Of special historical importance for this piece is the fact that Col. Theodore Roosevelt, at this point a former president, spoke at the Fair on Saturday September 17th and is advertised here, "Ex. Pres. Roosevelt Want to Shake Hands with You." Although it is not mentioned here, President Taft also visited the Fair on the 17th. On Monday the 12th Vice President James S. Sherman spoke--he would be the first Vice President to die in office in 1912. Another major feature of this Fair is the fact that the Glenn H. Curtiss Aeroplane did a daily exhibition over the Fair Grounds. Seven folds. Small open tear at the head of the broadside, probably where it was pinned up in a railway car. Separation at two of the folds. One small chip from the left side of the broadside at the last fold. Framed in a black wooden frame under glass, one corner of the glass chipped.
