16 Peter Rabbit, Little Red Hen and Owl and Pussy Cat
Newark Charles E. Graham Original Decorative Boards Good No Jacket 4to - over 9" - 12" tall
Unpaginated (2pp. prelims including title page + 38pp.). Original laid paper over green cloth (resulting in a quarter bound cloth). Color pictorial pasteon on the front board. Illustrated with 16 full page color plates, profusely illustrated in text. Pictorial endpapers. The illustrations are drawn after Beatrix Potter, but they are not hers since The Tale of Peter Rabbit was pirated in America. The first pirated edition appeared in 1904. Dating this one is difficult but we estimate that this was printed in the 1920's based on the listing in OCLC WorldCat (which lists only two copies in institutional holdings) and based on the dated gift inscription (1926). Most dealers seem to estimate the printing to be around the 1910's, but I believe this is off. Two leaves tape repaired (only one is a color plate and that repair is in the margin). Corners and edges bumped and rubbed through. Gift inscription on the verso of the front free endpaper. Some scufing to the boards.
