Bickersteth (1786-1850) was a founder of the Evangelical Alliance and of the Irish Church Missions Society and edited The Christian’s Family Library (50 volumes). This work is considered one of his more important works (New Schaff-Herzog Religious Encyclopedia II:186). Ownership inscription and ink stamp on the front pastedown. The front free endpaper and title page are reinforced with tape, which is browned. Spine ends chipped. Corners bumped and rubbed through. The end matter is soiled.
