307pp. + 4pp. ads. 1st Edition, 1st Issue with this title listed as #2 in the advertisement opposite the preface as called for by Gardner (page 388-89) and Bennett is in agreement (#2, page 42). Bennett says that this is a second state since page 99 is printed in broken type (#2, page 42). Original decorative brown cloth, elaborately stamped in black and gilt. Illustrated. Back cover heavily waterstained. The heel of the spine is frayed. Corners bumped and rubbed through. Small mouse nibbling from the spine. One leaf loose in the binding. 281pp. + 6pp. ads. Original bright blue cloth stamped decoratively in black with a vine and tree branch motif and an inset profile of a boy in a diamond shaped box. Spine also stamped with a gilt box, which is rubbed. Patterned green endpapers. Frontispiece engraving. Front hinge cracked and cleanly reglued. Small ownership inscription on the front free endpaper. Corners bumped and rubbed, two corners barely rubbed through at the tips. A fairly bright copy. Burt was the publisher for the first edition of this title, but the true first is in a paperback format (see Bennett #47). The address given in the ads for this title is 66 Reade Street. NY A.L. Burt 1888 Early Hardcover Edition. Original Cloth Very Good No Jacket Book 
281pp. + 38pp. ads. with the Reade Street address. Original decorative cloth, patterned endpapers. The true first edition was printed as a paperback by Burt a few months before it came out as a hardcover as part of their "Burt's Home Series", ".a rather deluxe set in somewhat more-elegant-than-usual cloth covers" (Gardner pages 406-07). Corners bumped and rubbed through at the tips. Bottom end of spine rubbed through in several places along the edge. Pencil gift inscription on the first blank page. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall

NY Chatterton-Peck 1905 Reprint. Original Decorative Cloth Very Good No Jacket 
272pp. + 10pp. ad. Original green cloth with a design in three columns: a boy with a gun, a tent, and a boy with a letter. Illustrated with a frontispiece by A.B. Shute. This is one of the post-humous Algers, completed by the Stratemeyer Syndicate. The first edition was published by the Stitt Publishing Co. This is an unusual edition with Chatterton-Peck as the publisher on the title page, but the name at the base of the spine in Grosset & Dunlap. Top corners gently bumped. Some offsetting to the prelims and the back free endpaper. A presentable copy of an uncommon Alger. Size: 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall
