Scranton 1875 Reprint Half-Leather Very Good No Jacket 742pp. + 605pp. + 19pp. dictionary of place names + 46pp. geographical historical index + 84pp. concordance (John Brown). Bound in original half leather with four slightly raised bands and spine lettering stamped in gilt, all edges marbled. Illustrated. Recommended by Spurgeon. He says, “A really standard work. We consult it continually, and with growing interest” (#35). See Barber, page 80. Rosscup says, “Though terse, it provides something good on almost any passage, phrase by phrase, and is to some degree critical in nature” (33). The leather is rubbed overall, the corners rubbed through. Endpapers and pastedowns darkened as is common for this edition, due to the poorer quality binding glue.
