|What does the "Speed" stand for in your DBA?
For one, it's my name. Jon Speed. Descendant of John Speed who came down the Erie Canal from Nottingham, England in 1850 to settle on a farm in western New York State.
Of the patriarch, John Speed who was the famous map maker and amateur historian who contributed a genealogy to the first edition of the 1611 King James Bible. And who was given an office in Queen Elizabeth's court. He's a good looking guy.
And sharing the surname of Joshua Speed, best friend of one Abraham Lincoln. His son, James, would serve in a cabinet position in Lincoln's short lived second term. Joshua was an atheist and was somewhat rebuked by Lincoln for his lack of faith in the Bible. Lincoln said, "You are wrong, Speed. Take as much of this book by intellect and the balance by faith and you will live and die a happier man." We don't agree with Lincoln on some things, but we do agree with his sentiment here.
But it might REALLY mean...
The "speed" with which we ship our books. We ship books six days a week and sometimes even more frequently. Not only are they professionally wrapped and protected, but they are sent out either the same day they are ordered or the next morning. The post office is within walking distance, but we usually ship so many books it is easier to drive.
And we always include tracking numbers as soon as the books are shipped. On the rare occasion that your book does not show up when you expect it, you can easily find out where it is. We do honor returns when books are not as described, but it has been many years since we have had a book returned because it was damaged in transit. We believe that you should receive the book quickly, and in the same condition it left our store.
We don't always get it right, and if we don't we will make sure you are happy.
