7 A Personal Ledger for the Year 1904 by a Resident of Brooklyn, NY
NY The Standard Diary 1904 Original Cloth Very Good No Jacket Book
One page for each day of the year plus cash account pages for each month. Original green cloth, spine titling and cover vignette stamped in gilt, all edges gilt. This record was faithfully kept for each day of the year by the unknown author and details his daily expenses with records of income, but sources are not mentioned. He appears to have been a wealthy young man since he had money for books and magazines (titles listed in the account), railroad tickets to various locations outside of the city (Albany, Poughkeepsie), sodas, candy, ice cream, and the occasional donation to the Salvation Army. He also kept records for the meals he ate out at various restaurants and included the amount he paid waitresses for their tips. Includes a mention of the Paris Saratoga Restaurant on E. 23rd Street on January 1st. On January 3rd he mentions the death of Captain J.E. Hetherington ( a successful beekeeper in Cherry Valley, NY-perhaps where the unknown author hailed from?). A fascinating glimpse into the life of a pre-World War One single young man enjoying life in the Big Apple. Unique. The binding is cocked from much use. Some bumping to the leading edge of the front cover. One corner nicked. Small one inch tear in the heel of the spine. Size: 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall
